The Team

Dale McCann | Qualified IKO Instructor

Hey guys! My name is Dale. I am the founder of SA Kitesurf Adventures and a lover of kite life. I’m your coach, your guide and your mentor when it comes to kiteboarding.  I started kiteboarding in my homeland of South Africa and became a certified IKO (International Kiteboarding Organization) instructor in Cape Town in 2012. My kiting and teaching experience is extensive and includes navigating various conditions in the Indian, Atlantic, and Pacific Oceans of South Africa, Kenya, Zanzibar, and now Oregon.

I love teaching kiteboarding because of its ability to transform people’s lives. Nothing makes me happier than witnessing the pure exhilaration and joy that my students feel when they stand up on the board for the first time. Knowing that I have helped someone to accomplish what many will never try is priceless. The rewards of kiteboarding are many and I want nothing more than to help you discover them!

When I’m not teaching or kiting, I’m busy organizing our next adventure trip, writing and playing music, braaing (barbecuing) dinner over a fire, or enjoying sunset yoga sessions with my wife and co-owner, Erika. Join me for lessons this summer and stay tuned for our trips and offerings in South Africa this coming December. Let’s go kiteboarding!

Erika Owen-McCann | Power Vinyasa Yoga Teacher

Hi! I’m Erika, Dale’s wife and co-founder of SA Kitesurf Adventures. I met Dale at the Kenyan coast two years ago while pursuing my Masters in Public Health and immediately knew that our paths had crossed for a reason. That reason presented itself in the form of SAK Adventures and I am so excited to share our vision with you. Our adventure trips combine my greatest loves: travel, nature, yoga, and water sports into a harmonious combination of healthy living, fun, and discovery.

I was born and raised in Florida, but have lived in Oregon for the past nine years. I discovered the transformational benefits of yoga seven years ago following a split from a lifetime of dance and circus arts, and I want nothing more than to share the wisdom of this life altering practice with you. I received my 200-hour Power Vinyasa teacher certification from Tiffany Cruikshank in 2010 and am continuing to grow my practice and teaching in the style of Universal Yoga under the guidance of Raj Patra and Kelly Suttell at Hot Yoga for Life in Portland.

By combining yoga and kiteboarding, it is my hope that you will experience how each show us how to live a more mindful, balanced, and ultimately happy life. Through kiting you literally learn to ride the currents of the waves. Your physical survival depends on complete presence in every move that you make. This same presence is cultivated through a yoga practice. We use movement (asana) and breath (pranayama) as tools to pull our awareness into our bodies so that we can begin to observe the mind. Through meditation we learn to ride the currents of our thoughts and as we let go, we find liberation. Freedom from everything that holds us back! MOKSHA! I look forward to sharing a practice with you!
